Captain Frank Lofton began his 18-year law enforcement career in January 1991 as a cadet deputy sheriff with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

Being part of a military family, Lofton was born in Munich, Germany. His father was an Infantryman in the United States Army who retired from Recruiting Command as a Master Sergeant, so his family was stationed in Germany, Texas, Louisiana and California. After graduating from Moody High School in Moody, Texas, he earned a Business Administration Associate’s Degree and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves at the Marion Military Institute in Alabama.
In 1986, Lofton joined the Texas Army National Guard and was promoted to Captain before transferring to the inactive component of the U.S. Army Reserves in 1991 and was honorably discharged in 2001. He pursued his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, graduating from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, in 1990. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Criminal Justice Honor Society.

Lofton holds a Master Peace Officer’s license and has served as Detective in Homicide, Persons Crimes, Juvenile, Auto Theft and Property Crimes; Sergeant in Patrol and Criminal Investigations; and Lieutenant in Patrol. He was promoted to Captain of the Law Enforcement Bureau’s West Command in March 2009.

Captain Lofton has been married for 17 years. He and his wife have a daughter and a son. He enjoys playing golf and volleyball. He also enjoys volunteering as a coach for his daughter’s volleyball and softball teams, and his son’s baseball teams. His wife has served many terms as PTA president, so he is an active PTA member and volunteer.
