The Victim Services Division, launched in 1984 as part of the Law Enforcement Bureau, operates out of the Central Command's Ruiz Building. Victim Services was started prior to state mandates requiring crime victim liaisons within law enforcement. The Sheriff's Office has demonstrated continued dedication to crime victims by expanding the unit and services. There are currently six full-time staff and an active volunteer base.
Victim Services staff provide on-scene response to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma, as well as outreach services, focusing on family violence and major crimes. The counselors are also available to provide staff training and community presentations on a variety of topics, including criminal justice system overview, grief issues, family violence, child abuse, sexual assault, victim rights and victim services.
