   As a law enforcement community with a proud tradition dating back
to 1840, the Travis County Sheriff's Office has developed a vision for exceeding community expectations through exemplary service. We are reaching out to the entire community to prevent crime and keep the community safe.
   The Sheriff’s Office is investing in individuals who will provide the community with the highest standard of community service. We are expanding our standards for community policing and maintaining a professional corrections team that insures an efficient, secure jail.
   A sampling of our strategic initiatives illustrate the progressive law enforcement agency that we have become:
* To provide youth with positive alternatives and outlets;
* To acquire and install more technology to assist our staff in performing more effectively;
* Expanding a formal mentoring program for corrections and law enforcement officers specifically designed for promotion; and
* To reduce patrol deputy call loads through the use of a civilian response team.
   The Travis County Sheriff’s Office works with the entire criminal justice community to collaborate and develop diverse responses to a number of different community challenges. To promote community policing we are meeting with neighborhood groups, individual citizens, and businesses to better understand their needs and respond to them. We are dedicated to continuing to improve communications with the citizens of Travis County and all first responders that help to deliver seamless emergency services in a variety of situations. Whether it is responding to a call for help on the lake, a forced landing of a small plane, or a plea to corral livestock on a road, our professional law enforcement officers are trained to provide the appropriate response twenty-four hours each day, seven days a week.
   Our corrections bureau has the challenge of providing a secure environment in the jail while encouraging individuals to use the time in jail to start a new direction. Getting inmates to complete programs that can help move them towards success in the world of work and personal stability is a challenge from the moment an individual is incarcerated in our jail.
   We want to invite you to become a part of our team. There are many ways the public can work with law enforcement: participate in our Citizen’s Academy, throw a block party on our annual National Night Out Event, and simply be aware of what’s going on in your neighborhood.
   The Sheriff’s Office is investing in individuals who will provide the community with the highest standard of community service. We are here at all times to protect and assist the citizens of Travis County.
Sincerely,
Sheriff Greg Hamilton, Travis County, Texas
