Two Inmates Die in Unrelated Incidents Saturday

At approximately 5:40 am on Saturday, March 31, 2018, during meal service, inmate DONALD COOR, 50 of Austin was observed to be unresponsive in his cell. CPR was immediately initiated by TCSO Corrections Officers and TCSO medical staff, then continued by ATCEMS once they arrived on scene. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful and Coor was pronounced deceased at 6:30 am.

The investigation to this point indicates Coor likely died of natural causes. The final determination is pending toxicology reports and other test results.

At 5:00 pm the same day, inmate ERIC TAYLOR, 24 of Austin was observed to be lying on the floor of his cell. Taylor was unresponsive and CPR was initiated by Corrections Officers and TCSO medical staff, then continued by ATCEMS. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful and Taylor was pronounced deceased at 5:54 pm.

At this point, the investigation indicates Taylor likely died of natural causes, but the final ruling is pending toxicology reports.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, Internal Affairs Unit, the Texas Rangers and the Medical Examiner’s Office is ongoing, as is customary with any death in custody.
