Inmate Dies at Travis County Correctional Complex

Inmate Dies at Travis County Correctional Complex

At 8:30 pm on December 21, 2019, inmate ANYA WYNE, 40 of Austin was observed to be unresponsive and bleeding in her cell by an officer conducting a routine post visual check. CPR was immediately started by TCSO medical and correctional staff. Upon arrival, EMS took over CPR. The efforts were ultimately unsuccessful and she was pronounced deceased at 9:16 pm.

Wyne was booked into custody on Dec 17, 2019, charged with Aggravated Assault Family Violence. She was booked in with a neck injury that was reportedly self-inflicted. She was housed on suicide watch, then moved to the medical housing unit on December 18, 2019. When she was discovered unresponsive in her cell on December 21, 2019, the bleeding was due to a self-inflicted re-opening of the neck wound.

An investigation by the Internal Affairs Unit, the Texas Rangers and the Medical Examiner’s Office is underway, as is customary with any death in custody.
