TCSO Searches for Missing Man in Lake Travis

TCSO Searches for Missing Man in Lake Travis

On June 16, 2019, at 7:30 p.m., the Travis County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the Rough Hollow area of Lake Travis. When TCSO Lake Patrol deputies arrived, witnesses reported a 70-year-old man was last seen in the water without a life jacket. Other first responders quickly put rescue swimmers in the water, but the call turned to recovery around 8:15 p.m.

Witnesses reported where they last saw the man. Lake Patrol deputies placed a buoy to mark the location. Deputies then started scanning the area with sonar, camera, and a remotely operated underwater vehicle before suspending search efforts around 11:45 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies returned to Lake Travis to search for the man Monday morning. They are using the same equipment to search the water. After storms move through the area, divers from the TCSO Underwater Recovery Team will begin searching for him.

The area where the man was last seen is between 40 and 90 feet deep, with sharp drop-offs and underwater trees in the area.
