Inmate Dies at Travis County Jail

At approximately 10:20 pm on the evening of February 19, 2020, inmate RENE MARTINEZ, 44 was found unresponsive in his cell by a corrections officer who was conducting post visual checks. A post visual report less than 30 minutes earlier indicated nothing out of the ordinary.

Martinez was booked into the Travis County Jail Tuesday, February 18, 2020, charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

An investigation by TCSO Internal Affairs Unit, Texas Rangers, TCSO Criminal Investigation Division and the Medical Examiner’s Office is underway, as is customary with any death in custody.
