Body Recovered from Lake Travis Identified
The afternoon of April 24, 2021, TCSO’s dive team recovered a body from the Devil’s Cove area of Lake Travis. The decedent has been positively identified as JERMONT POWERS, 31 of Houston.
The morning of April 24th, TCSO continued search efforts in the area where Powers was reportedly last seen. TCSO was assisted by Texas Parks and Wildlife, Lower Colorado River Authority and Jonestown Police Department. Texas Parks & Wildlife’s sonar revealed a viable location for the TCSO dive team to search. The body was located and recovered a few hours later.
Recap: At 3:10 pm on April 17, 2021, TCSO, Jonestown PD, Travis County Parks Police, Starflight, North Lake Travis Fire/Rescue, Lake Travis Fire/Rescue and ATCEMS responded to a report of a missing swimmer on Lake Travis. First responders immediately began rescue efforts but were ultimately unsuccessful. The response shifted to a recovery mission.
The missing man was last seen near a boat that was anchored in Devil’s Cove. Water in that area of the lake is about 35 feet deep with low visibility due to silt. Throughout the week, TCSO employed several search methods including sonar, drone, shoreline and surface searches. TCSO was assisted by LCRA, Jonestown PD and Texas Parks and Wildlife, who brought a dog to aid the search efforts. TCSO’s Dive Team actively searched for four days, then went on stand-by, ready to dive when sonar searches indicated a viable location.
