The Travis County Sheriff’s Office embraces the philosophy of Community Policing. With this strategy, officers patrol the same districts during their tour of duty in an effort to become familiar with the people and the surroundings.
This style of policing allows the officers and the citizens to form a partnership that not only addresses crime, but also has a positive impact on quality of life issues.
The Family Violence Unit, which operates out of the Central Command’s Ruiz Building, is grant-funded by the State of Texas and handles domestic violence investigations. The unit also performs community education and training of officers in preventative measures to reduce domestic violence in our area.
The TCSO Family Violence Unit is a partner of the Family Violence Protection Team (FVPT). FVPT is a collaborative, community response to family violence that works toward holding batterers accountable and provides support to victims through investigative, legal and social services.
