Each year, Travis County Sheriff’s Office assists neighborhood watch
groups with facilitating National Night Out. This year’s event will be Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 in neighborhoods across Travis County.
National Night Out is known to be “America's Night Out Against Crime!” The '25th Annual National Night Out' (NNO), a unique
crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).
   TCSO has promoted National Night Out for the past 24 years. Our involvement has grown from a couple of crime prevention officers, to dozens of patrol officers, sergeants, lieutenants, captains, majors, county commissioners and the Sheriff.
   Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from all over Travis County. Nationally, more than 34 million people participated in National Night Out 2007.
National Night Out is designed to:
* Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
* Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
* Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
* Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
For more information, please email Deputy James Kitchens or call (512) 854.8413; or download the application to register your neighborhood’s NNO participation.
