Death in Custody at Travis County Correctional Complex
At approximately 10:39 a.m. on May 22, 2024, inmate ROBERT VALENTINO MUNGUIA, 63, of
Austin was found unresponsive in his unit. CPR was administered immediately but despite
resuscitation efforts, Munguia was pronounced deceased on scene.
Munguia was booked into custody November 26, 2023, charged with Injury to a Child/Elderly.
An investigation by TCSO’s Internal Affairs Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, the Texas
Rangers and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office is underway, as is customary with any
death in custody. The autopsy was conducted on May 23, 2024, and the final report is pending.
