Body Recovered from Lake Travis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 23, 2024

Body Recovered from Lake Travis

At 2:40 p.m. on June 22, 2024, TCSO Lake Patrol Deputies and other agencies responded to a cove in Arkansas Bend County Park. A 911 caller reported that a man in his 70s was missing. Witnesses stated the man was not wearing a life jacket and was last seen in the water, using a small handheld propulsion device commonly referred to as a scooter.

TCSO Lake Patrol, Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD), Lake Travis Fire Rescue, Starflight and Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) searched the area. The mission transitioned to recovery that evening and TCSO took over as lead agency, continuing searches until nightfall. TCSO Lake Patrol Deputies resumed shoreline, surface, ROV and sonar searches at sunrise on June 23. TPWD and LCRA assisted with sonar searches.

At 5:51 pm on June 23, the body of a male matching the description of the missing swimmer was recovered in the cove, at a depth of 29 feet. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Travis County Medical Examiner.

Out of respect for the family involved, and because there is currently no indication this is a criminal incident, TCSO will not disclose the identity of the decedent via press release.

TCSO reminds patrons of Lake Travis that the best way to ensure your safety on the lake, or any other body of water, is to wear a life jacket. In the event of an emergency on the water, follow these steps:
