TCSO and ACC Partner to Offer Inmates Stronger Job Opportunities

TCSO has equipped a classroom at the Travis County Correctional Complex with computers and Austin Community College District (ACC) is providing instructors to teach people in TCSO’s custody Office Professional skills. The innovative program will equip graduates to qualify for the kind of jobs that can set them on a path to higher earning and stability. ACC and local businesses work together to make job opportunities available to individuals who complete the course.

Sheriff Sally Hernandez will explain how the partnership is accommodated in the jail, which inmates qualify to participate, and how the program benefits the participant, his/her family, and ultimately, the community.

Deborah Benavidez, Department Chair/Associate Professor, ACC Office Administration & Technology will explain the genesis of the program, how it’s funded, what skills are taught and how business connections are made.
