Employee Recognition
The High Five program provides a simple way to recognize employees who make a positive difference through their everyday actions. Whether someone stepped up to help a teammate, demonstrated professionalism in a difficult situation, showed initiative, or simply made the day better for others, High Five is an opportunity to acknowledge those actions. Your submission will be shared with Command and names of recognized individuals will appear in TCSO’s Briefing Notes and Newsletter.

Nothing could have prepared me for a supervisor as incredible as Sgt. Cuevas. She is dedicated to an unfathomable degree and is extremely diligent in everything she sets her mind to or whatever task needs to be accomplished. She is personable, caring and honest, and without hesitation she would drop anything to help you. I’ve had the honor of working with Sgt. Cuevas for nearly half of my career so far, and I could not be more appreciative of her guidance, her motivations, and her honesty. She has personally made a major impact on how I perceive leadership skills and shared personality traits, and has illustrated how effective leadership can enact positive changes for not only work ethic but also morale. She will credit you sincerely for a job well done and go out of her way to assist other staff members. She will train and guide incoming staff and implement initiatives and directives to make wherever she is working more efficient. And, of course, she will hold you accountable if you need to do better. That is because she sincerely cares about your potential and will let you know it. The level of respect I have for Sgt. Cuevas is undeniable, and her consistency as a person and leader is what I respect most. Whenever I’ve needed Sgt. Cuevas, she has already been there before I could even ask because she is so in tune with our staff and those that she cares for. Personally, and professionally, I believe that Sgt. Cuevas is the epitome of what leadership is on all levels, and I will always be grateful for that. Thank you, Sgt. Cuevas!

Laura is the exact type of advocate and support system that these Programs inmates need in their lives. I’ve had the opportunity to grow a very strong relationship with her in regard to her Programs Unit in Building 1, where I have worked more than anywhere in my career thus far. We both have actively worked towards the same goals, solving issues, creating a more efficient schedule and managing these inmates the right way. Inmates deserve the opportunity to grow and learn, and I appreciate Laura's approach to each individual. She is also extremely knowledgeable about her unit where on countless occasions we have compared pass ons/discussed approaches, etc., in order to resolve things together. I appreciate that we both share the vision of making a positive impact by teaching, guiding and mentoring these individuals who deserve another chance. Laura is not just great at what she does for her Programs inmates, but she is also an amazing person with consistent positivity, professionalism and attentiveness. I appreciate you, how you treat me, and how you’ve accepted my collaborative efforts in order to make the unit the best we can! High Five to you, LP, and thank you always!

TCSO Forensic Division
Submitted by Misty Flournoy (Law Enforcement)
I would like to nominate my whole department. I lost my soul dog, Emmy Lou, in March. I was gone for a couple days due to having to put her down and another day because of my grief. Most people would not care because to most people it was just a dog, but my coworkers rallied around me, helped me process my grief, checked on me, and helped me remember her. I felt seen and cared for. From my manager, Renee Luna, the Leads, Josh Loving and Shannon Shafer, all crime scene specialists, evidence techs, and my co-defendant (OSS) Celeste Ortiz, they all understood and helped me in one of the darkest times this year. I appreciate them and hope they know how much I consider them family.
